Member Services & Benefits
Read more about how the IPA can provide employment assistance and help you as a member, including the financial products offered by The Independent Pilots Financial Services. Below is an example of the assistance that we will provide:
Disciplinary and Grievance Hearings: your right to be accompanied.
You have the legal right to be accompanied to any official disciplinary or grievance hearing. Your companion can be a representative from your Trade Union, if you belong to one, or a work colleague if you are not a Union member. This is set out in section 10 of the Employment Relations Act 1999. It does not matter whether your Union is recognised by your employer or not.
Union recognition means that the employer will conduct negotiations with that Union on matters such as pay and conditions, or redundancies. It has nothing to do with your right to be accompanied.Rest assured that we will represent you whenever necessary, regardless of whether your employer recognises the IPA, BALPA, or yet another Union.
(For more information on your rights in the event of disciplinary or grievance action, have a look at www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2174 and www.acas.org.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=1043
