DELIVERY OF the first two Airbus Military CN235-300 transport aircraft to the Arme de l'Air (French Air Force) took place on the afternoon of January 6, when they arrived at Base Arienne 110 Creil-Senlis, France, from the factory at Seville-San Pablo Airport, Spain. They had been due for delivery the previous day, however, bad weather delayed their departure.
They will join Escadron de Transport 3/62 'Ventoux,' whose pilots undertook the ferry flight from Seville to Creil. The Arme de l'Air already has a fleet of older CN-235-200 variants, 20 of which were delivered from February 1991, although one has since been lost, on December 17, 2003.
Due to delays in A400M deliveries, France announced on April 12, 2010, that it had ordered eight new CN235-300s to act as a stop-gap. The first aircraft was officially handed-over to France's military procurement agency, the Direction Gnrale de l'Armement (DGA), on November 17, 2011. All eight aircraft are scheduled to enter service by the end of April 2013.
